We do a lot of talking during the ReDesign Works initial Design Consultation.
The homeowner tells me what they like and don't like about each room: what works, what doesn't work, what they've tried in the past, what they envision for the room, etc. Then, I offer some ideas for how things could change, based on their budget and situation. For example, some clients want to buy new furniture, so I cover what sort of pieces would work best, what their prices might be, and where to shop. Other clients want to reuse what they have, so I focus on how they can move around their furniture and incorporate things from other rooms (or things in storage). Some folks know that they need to do some sort of constuction work (moving walls and doors, re-tiling, re-painting), but need some advice on exactly what to do and where to begin. Frequently, the Design Consultation is a mix of some of the above. The consultation lasts about one hour.
After the Design Consultation, the homeowner has a choice of how involved they would like me to be. For example, some clients take my advice and handle everything themselves. Others need some help with the shopping: I do the basic leg work and give them a few choices of what to buy. Some very busy clients say, "Do it all for me." In that scenario, I handle all the shopping, arrange deliveries, move existing furniture, re-hang art, arrange and oversee any required construction and/or painting.
